Forever DM takes a step back.
Character creation comes from the heart. It is a labor of love, especially at higher levels. Imagine how I felt creating my first character in 10 years - giddy, young, full of adventure - and then seeing my HP. The background on this campaign is that I taught Basch the basics on how to DM by creating a level 5 Druid and we did a test run. That test run seemed to inspire him to take over the role of DM so we're going to show his new skills to the group.
Basch begins with character creation for all players, helping them rolls stats and come up with names for their badass characters. Boggs's monoplegia affected self is sassy as ever getting *terrible* rolls. Lil Buffalo is slurping coffee in his electrician's neon shirt awaiting his turn to roll stats. Novel Rook chews on a pen awaiting the game to begin since her rogue was rolled weeks ago by me. And me? I'm the pseudo mechanic, Kiseki. This is our first blog in an attempt at keeping all of our campaigns straight. Will there be shenanigans? Yes. Yes, there will.
***************So, my computer crashed and didn't save anything after this point so I'm going to do my best to recall what all happened in the campaign*****************
Kiseki
We opened with where we were last time Basch and I played. I was on a mission to destroy the ghouls plaguing a swamp village and was given another mission to deal with a Lizard Folk threat. I had just killed five ghouls in a battlefield remnant area and gained experience. When I look around myself, I can see there are four den looking entrances in the ruins. I then proceed to gather the dry top half of grasses found in the area. I then line each entrance of each den with the grasses. Then I shape water and flood the den on the far end first, immediately seeing bubbling and water movement as if something was coming out. I then stood to the side and readied my weapon - a quarterstaff - to be swung up and over nailing the creature on the head. I then toss his unconscious body back in the flooded den and set the grass ablaze. I leave that den when the bubbles stop. I proceed to the next den, flooding it in the same way and immediately setting the grass ablaze. One ghoul comes out of the water and gets into the fire. I then shoot him in the Achillies tendon with an arrow and watch him slowly roast to death. I move on to the last two dens. I dual cast the cantrip 'shape water' and flood both dens. Then I use produce flame to set both entrances on fire. One den pours outward with ghouls, six of them total. I wild shape into an orangutan and proceed to approach the first ghoul folding him like a pretzel, killing him. This action scares two ghouls. Then I proceed to finish mauling those last five ghouls into oblivion. I check my surroundings and those were all of the ghouls. I found 40 gold in a chest tucked in a bush and gained EXP. I then headed back to the village.
Boggs
Boggs comes into town and meets a local who tells him of an inn and of a food shelter. Boggs takes interest in the food and heads that way.
Novel Rook
Comes into town and sees a wood elf eating at a table outside a building who looks obviously out of place in this swampy village. She looks for critters and sees a mouse run into a den hole. She takes note of where the mouse went and then joins Boggs.
Lil Buffalo
Lil dropped from the sky where a portal opened up, and he landed prone on the table because he rolled a natural 1 for the first roll of the game. He drew from the deck and got a Djinn that states he will summon an audience from anyone Lil wishes, for five minutes. Lil chooses Bahamut. Bahamut asks what Lil summoned him for and Lil wishes to pledge himself to the god. The god makes it clear he must be righteous in his path and never stray and Lil confirms he will do so.
Kiseki
I saw the old man disappear from reality and honed in on the strangers, stopping and gauging their intentions. I made eye contact with Novel. Novel and I decided to create a pact between us moving forward. I then begin to strip down to my skivvy's and hang my clothes on a tree. Next, I summon rain to wash my clothes while I go inside and talk to the chief of this village. I tell the chief what I accomplished with the ghouls and request room and board for myself and my party in return. The chief agrees to do so. I then go back outside and see kids looking at my clothing hanging on the tree. I pat one on the head and say "what's up little man" while walking past and begin getting dressed. The tyke runs off. I return to the group at the table. I tell the group about the Lizard Folk and confirm Lil can speak Draconic. We then decide to rest for the night and take off first thing in the morning. We are led to a shack that has four beds, a fireplace in the center of the room and a dank feeling about it. We rest for the night. The next morning, we set off. The walk went off without a hitch, and we arrived right as planned. I stopped the group as I saw the edges of what looked like mild civilization peeking through the trees. As a group, we decided Boggs and Lil would stay behind while Novel and I went and scouted ahead. I casted 'Pass Without Trace' and walked as close as I could get without giving myself away. I saw Five Lizard Folk standing around a fire and three towers. I assumed there are at least one lizard on each tower so there are at least seven enemies. I then retreat to the group.
Novel
Novel creeps close up high in the trees. she sees there is one lizard on each tower and the five in the center. She takes note of how far away the towers are from each other and judges distance before retreating back to the group.
Kiseki
Okay guys, we have five around a fire pit and some on towers. Novel what did you see?
Novel
There is one on each tower and they look different than the others around the fire.
Kiseki
Okay, here's what we do. Boggs, you firebolt the firepit spewing as much fiery slag as possible all over the five near the pit. Lil, you hit the ones not affected by the fire with your breath attack. Novel, you take to the trees and try to take out the tower guys. If shit goes wrong, you need to have an escape plan.
Novel
I'll jump.
Kiseki
... okay, you'll jump. And I'll be doing the same as Lil trying to get the ones not affected by the fire under control. Everyone have a role? Alright, let's go.
Novel
Novel climbs up and tries to sneak attack a lizard on a tower. She manages to shove him off the tower and he lands near the five around the fire.
Boggs
Boggs gets close enough and looses a firebolt into the pit. The firebolt severely damages the one that fell from the tower and damages some of the others.
Lil Buffalo
Lil then uses fire breath and freezes two lizards.
Kiseki
I then use call lightening and strike two lizards causing damage and killing another.
The rest of this battle goes about the same way. I cannot remember each move. It concludes with our group defeating the Lizard Folks and gaining EXP.
